Poet and Writer Kate Scott came to East Coker and had put together a fascinating workshop style meeting that had the group thinking hard about the featured poems.  A most interesting evening.

The West Coker Poets presented the whole of Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood.

This is a classic and the West Coker Poets put together an excellent performance including sound effects.

Anne Gullo lead this meeting which was something different for the group.  There is a long history of the story and verse being linked together.  Many early poems were ‘narrative poems’ telling a story in verse – most Anglo-Saxon and Celtic poetry that has survived is of this sort. 

Many favourite poems such as ‘The Ancient Mariner’ are stories in verse. 

This was a chance to tell a short story or read a short ‘narrative poem’ or read part of a longer poem.

Our competition evening is always a good evening and this year based around the theme ‘Ten’.  We read all the entries at this meeting and announced the winners.  This year our judge is local author and poet, James Crowden.

Iona Lambe, Amelia Bennett, Anna Webb and Heather Murphy were the prize winners in the four sections of the competition.

The September meeting of the East Coker Poetry Group was something different : a joint open meeting with some of the Bridport Poets.   This was be held at The Fox Inn at Corscombe.

A theme?  – something fun – and it was!

This open meeting will be a ‘themed’ meeting  – poems connected with ‘The Sea’ if possible but poems on any subject can be read if you have nothing inspiring on our ‘theme’ !      £2.00 entrance
