The Beat Poets

26/04/2016
7:30 pm

The Beat Poets was our first meeting back at the newly refurbished Helyar Arms in East Coker

Amelia Bennett and Caroline Mornement lead this meeting with a splendid mix of poetry, music and visual images.   The ‘Apple Loft’ at the Helyar Arms had recently been renovated and it was warm and welcoming – a very good evening.

Jazz or Beat  poetry is a literary genre defined as poetry necessarily informed by jazz music – that is, poetry in which the poet responds to and writes about jazz.  Jazz poetry, like music itself, encompasses a variety of forms, rhythms, and sounds.  Foot tapping stuff………

Poetry Competition Evening 2015

27/10/2015
7:30 pm

The competition evening took place on Tuesday 27th October at our new venue for the evening ‘The Red House’ on the A37 1 mile South of Yeovil. We had to switch venue at short notice due to the closure of the Helyar Arms.  It was a well attended and enjoyable meeting with the pictures featured by the poems projected onto a screen.  Several members of the Yeovil Art Group also attended as their pictures were featured in the competition poems.  Our judge, artist Jane MacKey, gave an excellent resume of the 10 top poems.  The competition winner was Juliet Lacey with her poem “Autimn walk : Charcoal”- see our competitions page.
